Spotlight on …Alexander Goudie RP RGI

1933 – 2004

Sandy Goudie was one of the most versatile painters of his generation, a precocious talent (entering Glasgow School of art at 16 and winning the most prestigious prizes), who achieved national fame as a portrait painter. Throughout his life he would devote his energies to huge projects – sets and costumes for Salomé; the complete decoration of Brittany Ferries flagship Bretagne in 1989-90; and Tam o’Shanter, a group of over 100 paintings, the core fifty of which were acquired by Rozelle House, Alloway.

This small exhibition touches on several of these themes, with A Breton Market and Tam and Meg at its heart, and gives an introduction to a career that spanned over five decades.
