Fiona Thompson
Over the last few years Fiona’s focus has been on groups of pieces as part of a series, allowing for in-depth investigation of form, surface, ideas and themes. Working much more slowly than previously, in terms of the time spent on research prior to making resolved pieces. This allows for ideas to be explored thoroughly, and for source material to be interpreted as much as possible. I’m particularly interested in how ceramic vessels can act as a vehicle for communication, narrative and commemoration. This new collection – animal/object – explores themes of taxidermy, commemoration, and display, and is based on natural history museum collections in Dundee and St Andrews.
