Judith Gilmour
1937-2003
Judith was born in Edinburgh and studied her craft at Glasgow School of Art.
Surface textures on Judith Gilmour’s sculptural vessels are achieved by laying a ground of slip and over-painting with dry glazes and oxides. Her texture varies from a broad lattice through soft layered mottling, to a fine-brushed treatment. Her colour palette is restrained, cool and warm whites, sand, greys and a heavy gritty black.
Judith Gilmour’s work is in the Public Collections of: Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery, Glasgow; Aberdeen Art Gallery; Royal Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh; Landesmuseum, Graz, Austria; Charles A Wustum Museum, Wisconsin, USA and private collections in Britain, America and Japan.
